TAILOR-MADE JOURNEYS TO
Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone Rejser is a Danish travel company specialising in tailor-made journeys to Sierra Leone.
We create your entire journey from start to finish around you – drawing on the places, people and experiences we know and love in Sierra Leone.
You come for the beaches.
You'll fall in love with the rest.
Sierra Leone is one of those places in the world where you can combine untouched beaches, lush nature and vibrant culture all on the same trip.
And perhaps the best part is that you don't have to choose. You can experience it all on the same trip.
Here's how your journey could look
Markets, football and local life
Explore the capital from the back of a keke. Visit lively markets, experience everyday life in Wilberforce and Kroo Bay and meet local football players on the training pitch.
Freetown
Island life, snorkelling and hiking
Stay on a tropical island surrounded by palm trees and crystal-clear water. Go snorkelling, hike through the rainforest and discover the island's fascinating history and wildlife.
Banana Island
Relaxation, fishing trips and surfing
Enjoy some of West Africa's most beautiful beaches. Go on a fishing trip with local fishermen, relax by the ocean or visit Bureh Beach, where you can try your hand at surfing. Wake up to the sound of the waves and views of swaying palm trees.
Tokeh Beach
Chimpanzees, waterfalls and rainforest
Wrap up your trip in the green mountains outside Freetown. Visit the chimpanzees at Tacugama, hike to hidden waterfalls and walk among the treetops on the spectacular canopy walkway.

Meet us
We are Cecilie and Rune
Together, we have more than 15 years of experience in Sierra Leone.
Cecilie has worked in the country since 2012 through the Danish development organization FANT, while Rune lived and worked in Sierra Leone for Doctors Without Borders in 2019-2020.
We both fell in love with the country – not just the beaches and nature, but especially the people.
That's why we started Sierra Leone Rejser.
We help curious travellers experience one of West Africa's most overlooked countries in a safe, authentic, and respectful way.
No standard packages.
No tourist buses.
Just authentic experiences.

We'll put together a specific proposal for your trip based on your wishes – and our deep knowledge of Sierra Leone. Then we'll tweak it together until it feels just right.
2
Pack your bags

3
TRAVEL WITH CARE
We don't travel just to see. We travel to understand.
Traveling to Sierra Leone isn't about expecting to get the most value for your money or ticking off as many sights as possible.
For us, it's all about curiosity. It's about meeting people with respect, being open to a reality that might be very different from our own and daring to embrace the complexity that comes with it.
That's why we create our trips together with the people who live and work in Sierra Leone. We use local guides, drivers, hotels, restaurants, and partners – and we carefully consider who benefits from our visit.
We believe the best journeys don't just bring something back home with you. They also leave something good behind in the places you've visited.
Practical information
-
September to May is the dry season and the time when most people choose to travel.
-
Our trips are especially suited for curious travelers, families with older children, and adventurous adults who want a closer connection to the people, culture, and nature than you get on a traditional safari or package holiday.
-
Most trips last between 10 and 14 days, but we tailor every journey to fit your wishes and needs.
-
Yes. Sierra Leone is one of West Africa's most peaceful countries and is well-known for its hospitality. We plan all our trips in close collaboration with our local network, and you will always be met by guides and partners who know the areas and the local communities well. This ensures both peace of mind and access to experiences that most tourists won't find on their own.
-
Since all our trips are custom-designed, the price varies from trip to trip. A 10-day trip typically starts at around 15,000 DKK per person, excluding airfare, depending on your preferences for accommodations, transportation, and activities. We always prepare a quote based on your preferences.
-
Yes. Alongside individual and family trips, we also organize group tours with specific themes and purposes. These can range from football trips and study tours to retreats and leadership development programs. Some group tours are for existing groups, while others are open to individual sign-ups. Feel free to contact us to hear about current and upcoming trips.
-
The official language in Sierra Leone is English, so you'll easily get by with English in hotels, restaurants, and tourist spots.
In everyday life, however, most people speak Krio – a creole language with many English words, making it surprisingly easy to recognize some of what is being said.
In addition, a wide range of local languages are spoken, including Temne, Mende, and Limba.
-
Should anyone fall ill during the trip, we have an agreement with a private hospital in Freetown where our guests can be seen quickly. The hospital has experienced medical staff and great professional facilities, so you can feel completely secure knowing you'll get the help you need if the need arises.
We always recommend having good travel insurance – we're happy to guide you on that too.
