Our favorite beaches

Sierra Leone has some of West Africa's most beautiful beaches – from resorts and poolside cocktails to surfing, fishing villages, and small local beach bars.

Here are a few of our favorites.

Tokeh Beach

Relaxation, comfort, and experiences close to local life

For many travelers, Tokeh Beach is the place where you can finally let your shoulders drop.

Here, you can wake up to the sound of the waves, enjoy breakfast with an ocean view, and let the day drift by at your own pace.

Here you'll find some of Sierra Leone's most comfortable beach resorts with air conditioning, a pool, great food, and long sandy beaches right outside your door.

For some, Tokeh Beach is all about total relaxation.

For others, it's the starting point for small adventures. We can arrange visits to the local village, fishing trips with local fishermen, or other experiences that give you a glimpse of life along the coast.

Tokeh Beach makes room for both – which is why it's often one of our guests' favorite spots on the trip.

Bureh Beach

Surf, community, and laid-back beach life

Bureh Beach is one of Sierra Leone's most characterful beach destinations.

Here you'll find small beach lodges and cozy cabins with sea views, a vibrant surf culture, and a relaxed atmosphere where locals and visitors gather by the beach.

Bureh is especially known for its surf school, and we can arrange surf lessons for both beginners and experienced surfers. But the area is about more than just surfing.

Enjoy freshly caught fish by the water's edge, soak up the local village vibe, or join the events and beach parties that regularly bring people together from near and far.

Through our local network, we can help arrange experiences in the area and set up meetings with people that provide a unique insight into life along Sierra Leone's coast.

Bureh is a place with energy, community, and plenty of personality – and one of the places travelers remember the longest.

BEACHES

River No. 2 Beach

One of Sierra Leone's most iconic beaches

River No. 2 is undoubtedly one of Sierra Leone's most iconic beaches.

Here, a quiet river meets the Atlantic Ocean in a gorgeous bay surrounded by green hills, white sand, and crystal-clear water. It's one of those places where photos hardly do reality justice.

The beach is known for its local vibe and is a popular spot for both visitors and local families. Along the beach, you'll find small stalls and shops selling locally made crafts, wooden carvings, jewelry, and African textiles, which give the area a lively and colorful atmosphere.

From River No. 2, we can also arrange a canoe trip up the river to a hidden waterfall further inland. The trip takes about an hour each way and gives you a completely different perspective on the area's nature and wildlife compared to what you experience from the beach.

We especially recommend River No. 2 as a day trip, where you'll have plenty of time to swim, explore the area, have lunch by the beach, and experience one of the most spectacular spots along the Sierra Leone coast.

Lakka Beach

Beach life and freshly caught fish

Lakka Beach is just a short drive from Freetown and is a popular getaway for both locals and visitors.

Here, fishing boats, beach restaurants, and small resorts meet along the golden sandy beach that stretches along the bay.

Lakka is the perfect place to experience local coastal life. Enjoy freshly grilled lobster and jumbo prawns at one of the beach restaurants, take a stroll along the water, or sit back in the shade and soak up the lively atmosphere around the beach.

Although many people visit Lakka as a day trip from Freetown, there are also several cozy beach lodges where you can stay overnight and enjoy a few relaxing days by the sea.

Through our local partner, we can arrange fishing trips with local fishermen, giving you the chance to experience life at sea and try your hand at the fishing traditions that have been part of everyday life in coastal communities for generations.

We are happy to help you find the place that best suits your wishes and can combine your visit with other experiences in and around the capital.
